Taking care of your skin is crucial for keeping it smooth, hydrated, and healthy. You apply lotions and sunscreens to protect and hydrate your body and face. But, what about your lips? When it comes to skincare, so many people forget about this small but critical part of their face. Your lips are made of skin, too, and they deserve the best care possible. If you’re looking for ideal products, why not consider cannabis lip balm?
Cannabis Care for Your Lips
By now, you’re probably well-acquainted with cannabis topicals, infused products that you apply to your skin. You’ve probably seen all manner of moisturizing lotions and pain-relieving balms at your local dispensary. Perhaps you’ve even tried one or two. Cannabis lip balm is also a topical. Companies formulate the balms specifically for use on your lips. Many also contain additional ingredients that help to hydrate, heal, and protect. Some of these ingredients may include:
- Shea butter
- Coconut oil
- Avocado oil
With cannabis lip balm, you can help to protect your lips from the elements, as well as soothe and heal dry, chapped, or cracked lips.
Can You Get High from Infused Lip Balms?
One feature of cannabis topicals is that they can’t get you high. Even if they contain THC, the cannabinoids don’t penetrate the skin deep enough to enter your bloodstream.
Technically, however, it may be possible to feel some of the intoxicating effects of THC in cannabis lip balm. As a topical, it can’t penetrate far enough into your skin, but if you lick enough of it off of your lips and ingest it, you may get a minor buzz. It’s certainly not the most effective or efficient way, though. You can mitigate the risk by not licking your lips while wearing your infused lip balms.
Where to Find Cannabis Lip Balm
You won’t find cannabis lip balms in the health and beauty care aisles of your local grocery store or pharmacy. As they contain cannabinoids from cannabis plants, you’ll only be able to purchase them at a dispensary. Check your local shop online or in-person to view their selection.
Make Your Own Lip Balm at Home
As with other topicals, you can also make your own infused lip balms at home. There are tons of tutorials online, and you can find most of your ingredients except for cannabis at a variety of stores.
To make cannabis lip balm, you’ll need cannabis, you’ll need coconut oil, beeswax, essential oils for flavors (and to provide additional benefits), and cannabis. Your first step is to decarboxylate your buds, which activates the cannabinoids. Then you need to melt your wax and oil and infuse the mixture. After 30 minutes or so, add a couple of drops of essential oil and stir well. Finally, strain the infusion through cheesecloth, taking care not to squeeze the plant matter through the holes. Allow the mixture to cool, then place it in the refrigerator to continue hardening. Once solid, your balm is ready to use.
Your lips are an integral part of your skin, and they deserve the same love and care as the rest of your body. A cannabis-infused lip balm can provide you with just what you need to keep them moisturized, safe, and healthy.
